Parents, this question might be at the top of your mind:
“Why is my child choosing not to speak?”
Well, the answer might surprise you..
It’s not because of bad behaviour.
It’s not because they are being defiant .
And it definitely isn’t because of bad parenting!
The real reason probably isn’t what you expect,
And it's something that has been hiding under our noses all this time.
This is why I’ve made sure to discuss it in detail in email number #2 (and also.. the easiest remedy for it).

Now you may be thinking “Anna, why are you doing all of this?”
Well, my story started a long time ago,
When I initially became a speech & language therapist to help children with learning difficulties.
One day during my practice I met a boy who could not speak in my clinic but was very chatty at home.
This was my first encounter with Selective Mutism, and I wanted to do everything in my power to help.
Since then I have taken several top-accredited specialisation courses to fully understand the condition.
But it was somewhere along the way that I discovered the complete lack of resources on offer to parents, and the volley of bad advice
given out to them.
Parents hear one thing and try it.
Then hear something else, and try that as well.
Only to end up feeling dejected when none of it works..
I have seen this situation multiple times first hand, and it breaks my heart to see so many families struggle like this.
That is when I decided to give away my top resources for free.
I believe Selective Mutism NEEDS more awareness and parents have a RIGHT to know how to help their child.
Because EVERY child deserves a voice.
And I passionately believe that if schools aren’t helping and the government isn’t helping, then I want to do all I can to help.
